My Practice

It’s hard to believe our vulnerability is our wisdom.
— Margie Cohen, LCSW

My goal is to provide a space where you feel safe to explore yourself and your relationships (to people, places, and things) and to offer perspective and insights from my over 20 years of practice in community and private settings.

I work with adolescents, adults, and families who embody a diverse range of sexual orientations and gender identities, as well as ethnicities, cultures, abilities, and class.

We may especially be a fit if you are:

  • Someone who’s had negative or no prior therapy experience;

  • A community worker or caregiver/service provider;

  • A young person (age 13-24) interested in talking with a non-judgmental adult;

  • Concerned about the following:

    • relationships;

    • communication;

    • managing anxiety, stress, and/or depression

    • trauma (including interpersonal, circumstantial, environmental, or trauma based on any identities you hold)

    • sexual orientation and/or gender identity;

    • your LGBTQ+-identified children (youth or adult children);

    • life and role transitions;

    • grief and loss;

    • creating a life that feels aligned with what you want

    • low self-worth or feelings of inadequacy;

    • being undervalued by other people or systems.

  • Parents or caregivers who need help getting through to their teen and adult children

I am relational and humanistic in my approach. I am informed by liberation, feminist, and harm reduction approaches; and neurobiology/neuroscience.  I am a certified Brainspotting practitioner and I incorporate mindfulness; somatic interventions; and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my practice.

I listen closely and empathetically and I offer perspectives, ideas, and prompts to help you uncover yourself to find relief and healing. I value dialogue and moving together along the path of discovery and knowing. I believe laughter, resilience, restful silence, and connection are integral to healing.
